How to keep household appliances in perfect condition: tips for residents of Uzbekistan

Household appliances are not just a convenience, but a necessity for a modern home. In Uzbekistan, where climatic conditions are diverse, and dust and power surges can become real enemies of any technology, proper care of appliances is becoming especially important. Regardless of whether you use a refrigerator, washing machine, oven, or extractor hood, it's important to know how to extend the life of your appliances and avoid costly repairs.

In this article, we will look at what care and prevention measures will help keep household appliances in excellent condition for a long time.

1. Regular cleaning is the key to durability

The first and basic rule is regular and proper cleaning. Dust, grease, scale, food or detergent residues can damage the equipment or reduce its effectiveness.

For refrigerators, it is important not only to wipe the shelves and drawers, but also to clean the back grate of dust at least once every 6 months. A dirty capacitor overheats, and the equipment begins to wear out.

The washing machine should be descaled using special products or vinegar. It is also important to wipe the sealing gum and the powder tray — bacteria and fungus often accumulate in these places.

Ovens and cooking surfaces need regular removal of fat and food residues. It is better to do this immediately after cooking, before the contamination has dried. Use soft sponges to avoid damaging the coating.

The hood must be cleaned of grease at least once a month. Filters need to be washed or changed according to the instructions — a clogged hood loses power and becomes a source of unpleasant odor.

2. Use the equipment for its intended purpose

Each device has its own purpose and limits. The washing machine should not be overloaded, and the microwave should be used as an oven. Violating the manufacturer's instructions is a direct route to breakdowns.

Read the manual before using it for the first time — this will help you avoid typical mistakes. For example, not all detergents are suitable for dishwashers. And some types of pots cannot be placed in an induction cooker.

3. Surge protection

In Uzbekistan, the problem of unstable mains voltage remains relevant. Surges can be especially dangerous for sensitive appliances such as refrigerators, televisions, washing machines, and ovens.

Use voltage stabilizers or at least mains filters. This is a cheap preventive measure that can save expensive equipment. If the voltage often jumps, it is worth installing a stabilizer for the entire apartment or house.

It is also recommended to disconnect appliances from the mains during thunderstorms or prolonged absence from home.

4. Proper installation is the basis of safety

Improper installation of equipment can lead to a variety of problems, from noisy operation to breakdowns. For example, a washing machine mounted on an uneven surface will bounce and eventually wear out the shock absorbers.

The refrigerator should not stand close to the wall — it needs space for air circulation. The hob must be installed evenly and at a level so as not to create distortions during heating.

If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to entrust the installation to professionals. This is a guarantee that the equipment will work as it should from the first day.

5. Keep an eye on ventilation

Any equipment, especially powerful or heating ones, needs ventilation. This applies to refrigerators, ovens, and microwaves. Closing the air vents leads to overheating and accelerated wear of the components.

Never place equipment in cramped niches without a gap, especially when it comes to embedded models. The air must circulate freely around the body.

6. Clean water — clean appliances

In Uzbekistan, the quality of tap water can vary from district to district. Hard water with a high content of salts and impurities leads to the formation of scale — enemy No. 1 for washing machines and dishwashers, electric kettles and other devices with heating elements.

Decisions:

  • Use water filters — this will protect appliances and improve the taste of food and drinks.

  • Apply special descaling products regularly.

  • Try not to use unfiltered tap water for steamers, irons, and steam cleaners.

7. Care of rubber and plastic elements

Many breakdowns are not related to the mechanism, but to the destruction of seals, hoses and other "soft" elements. Washing machines and dishwashers, refrigerators, steam generators — all have rubber gaskets that dry out and crack over time.

To avoid this:

  • Do not leave the doors tightly closed after use — let the equipment air out.

  • Wipe the rubber bands with a dry cloth.

  • Lubricate the seals with special products or regular petroleum jelly once or twice a year.

8. Don't forget about prevention

The best way to avoid breakdowns is through prevention. If the equipment starts working differently — it makes noise, heats up, gives errors — do not ignore the signals. It is better to call the master and fix the problem at an early stage than to wait for major repairs.

Some manufacturers recommend performing maintenance once a year, such as cleaning the drainage in air conditioners or checking heating elements. This is especially important if you actively use the technique.

9. Use original accessories and spare parts

Even a small thing, like an unoriginal filter or tray, can damage the equipment. If a replacement is required, do not skimp — buy only proven accessories. It is also important to buy equipment at official points where you can get a warranty and service.

10. Proper storage and seasonal use

If you do not use the appliance for a long time, disconnect it from the mains and drain the water. This is especially true for country houses and seasonal premises.

Also note that some appliances don't like the cold. For example, refrigerators left in an unheated cottage in winter may fail.
